papercutting...... inspired by Rob Ryan

this is a paper cutting that reflects, the work of a great paper cutting artist called rob ryan, he creates the most amazing paper cutting with type and swirls, this is my own interpretation of his work and it was also an experiment of what i could use for my album cover. i wanted something that was upbeat and livly. to reflects beyonces song called party. i also wanted to make sure that it kept in tune with rob Ryan's work and had that feel to it as well.

i created the paper cutting by first drawing out the image that i wanted in pencil, i carefully thought about the image and how it would look once i have cut everything out, i wanted it to still make sense in pencil and still again once it had been cut out. then i used a craft knife and began cutting the drawing out, keeping in mind bridges so i didn't cut off too much and to make sure it still stayed together i had to use a lot of bridges.

this was my final out comes, and i think that it worked really well and how it should of come out, i also think that that the colour orange is really good as it is bright and stands out, i wanted a colour that would reflect parting and make people feel alive, that is why i chose to use the colour organge. i also think that the design has a dancing feel to it with all the swirls and music notes which again is what i wanted to create when making this paper cutting. the strong point of this work was definitely the design that was the part that went the best and the effect worked perfectly.

the things that i thought didn't go too well was the fact that i had to make so many bridges and at times it went wrong and i had to correct it. also when using the craft knife it was hard to cut the thin lines without breaking the card. so it took a long time to get the finished result but i think that it was a success overall.
i wanted to create a new design, but instead of creating just a new paper cutting, i used the bits of card that had been cut out of my paper cutting and then putting a different colour back ground and rearranging the cut outs to create a new design on a different piece of card just to see how it would come out. and so far i think that it is amazing, i didn't expect it to work so well.

i really like the use of colours and how the blue sets off the orange i tried a lot of different colours and this one was definitely the best. because of how it makes the orange look. i don't know if i would use this way of paper cutting for my album as i prefer the first paper cutting i did. but i still think this creates a new and different effect.

this was another design that i did to try out to see how it would turn out. and this one i really like, i changed the background colours again and this time added my original paper cutting and the lose bits that i had cut out together in one piece, and this is my favourite one. i love the way that theres a mix in layers and the orange and pink working together i think works really well. it creates a great image for the viewer and the fact that its not all plain paper cutting is what makes it even more great. i would definitely want to use this for my album cover.
if i had more time in doing this paper cutting, i would of added more to my original paper cutting and i would of added different lose bits in different colours to add viviaity to the paper cutting. i would just keep working into the cutting and adding to it, to create more of a dance party feel to the paper cutting. but overall i think they all worked well and all came out really good.
