(AS-A2 project) Nikki Farquharson - amazing pictures!
this has been created by Nikki Farquharson, she comes from London and went to university of arts in 2008, she create illustrations and that is her main line of work and what she is most passionate about, this piece of work was created for a magazine called missbehave and was part of an article called "baby girl" the article was all about clothes and had to show off the clothes in the article. this was a mixed media piece and Nikki has used simple fine liner and pens to create her background to her work, she is very fond of working from paper to start her work, this was done for a fashion piece and has to take in mind the clothes when creating the design, the design had to complement the clothes. this was done in 2009 and collaborated with photographer Brooke nipar. I chose this piece because as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it and also I love her technique of old fashion pen and paper to make her designs, she has a drawing room and that's where all her designs start this inspired me and also made me remember that graphics is not all about computer. i also loved her use of photography and drawings and how she adds to the photography with her drawings so the photography becomes part of the background, I think it is great and also very fresh way of design also how striking her work is, you couldn't miss it! I have looked further into her work and the story behind her work for missbave magazine http://www.nikkifarquharson.com/blog/2009/03/fashion-story-for-missbehave-magazine/ this helped me look at the finished product and how the piece worked with a magazine media format and it was great, I think this was the best place and the white paper made the work stand out even more, and her fresh designs made the article stand out perfectly. this work is illustration art and would be used for articles or poster work. the theme of this work is chick rock, by the use of colours, the bright colours stand out and also the clothing help to set the theme of the article, the drawings have managed to create. also the article was called baby girl turn me on with your electric feel.
the work is all about the clothes and keeping in tune with the magazine and the article, this drawing was created by a simple drawing with fine liner and then adding colour felt tips and a computer program Photoshop to add in the photography to the drawings. this artist gets inspired by working from home with a simple pen and adding to the drawing until it comes alive which is amazing and looks great, she uses colour to add effects of bright colours that catch the eye, and unique patterens as she creates them all herself. and this creates an explosive effect. the key parts to her work are drawings and colour and her patterns.
this work has inspired me to create more with photography and experiment with different types of media for one piece, i really like the way it has created an effect of one piece of art work and the drawings fit so perfectly. this definitely makes me want to try this and take it further.
very good :) xx by Sophie Fey (Amys cousin)xxxx
