(AS-A2 project) Quentin jones - collage !!!
This was created by quentin jones she is an illustration of mixed media and collages and has done work for loads of different company's including "rush magazine" and "urban magazine" he has built up quite a status and become well known.
This piece of work was created for 125 magazine and is called god save queen, it was done in September 2011, this would be for a fashion portrait and I think the amazing colour with the use of the 3 separate colours but they all work so perfectly together I love the use of the paint with photography and the added images keeping it true to its collage form the blending of the colours and the use of computer graphics and program's such as illustrator and photoshop bring it all together.
I have chosen to analyse this piece of work for the fact of the collage and how the artist has used layers of photography and paint to create the effect. I also like the simplicity of the collage as some artist can over crowd but I like the simple but interesting use of how the objects have been placed with the paint. The key elements are definitely colour and photography.
I looked at this website to gather more information about how she works and also to help me understand how she creates her art work http://think-work-play.com/quentin-jones/ this showed me her unique style and also showed me other work she has done and how she likes to go about her work.
"quentin we salute you but we are just a bit envious of you" was a comment about her and her work that was left on her blog and it just shows how much people enjoy her work.
The theme for this piece I think is futuristic because from doing research into the magazine she did work for they have a very fresh look and also have the theme of it is very future and this collage fits that exactly as it breaks the rule of the typical collage with not layering but keeping it smile and effective.
She found inspiration for her work from when she was younger with her modelling career and from that wanted to take fashion typical straight down the line beauty and turning it on its head.
I was inspired by this work because of the use of it being in a magazine I was inspired to find out more and also having never seen a collage like it made me want to find out more and this has inspired me to take typical ways of doing things and changing them also has inspired me too do more designs that could fit with magazine work. When I first saw this image I was amazed by the thought that had gone into it and the use of graphics with photography and paint I loved it and also love the fresh look it gave. It made me want to try it and that's why I like it so much.
I like everything about this piece the use of colours and the use of photography this also reminds me of the work of nikki Farquharson with her use of photography. And graphics.
(AS-A2 project) Nikki Farquharson - amazing pictures!
this has been created by Nikki Farquharson, she comes from London and went to university of arts in 2008, she create illustrations and that is her main line of work and what she is most passionate about, this piece of work was created for a magazine called missbehave and was part of an article called "baby girl" the article was all about clothes and had to show off the clothes in the article. this was a mixed media piece and Nikki has used simple fine liner and pens to create her background to her work, she is very fond of working from paper to start her work, this was done for a fashion piece and has to take in mind the clothes when creating the design, the design had to complement the clothes. this was done in 2009 and collaborated with photographer Brooke nipar. I chose this piece because as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it and also I love her technique of old fashion pen and paper to make her designs, she has a drawing room and that's where all her designs start this inspired me and also made me remember that graphics is not all about computer. i also loved her use of photography and drawings and how she adds to the photography with her drawings so the photography becomes part of the background, I think it is great and also very fresh way of design also how striking her work is, you couldn't miss it! I have looked further into her work and the story behind her work for missbave magazine http://www.nikkifarquharson.com/blog/2009/03/fashion-story-for-missbehave-magazine/ this helped me look at the finished product and how the piece worked with a magazine media format and it was great, I think this was the best place and the white paper made the work stand out even more, and her fresh designs made the article stand out perfectly. this work is illustration art and would be used for articles or poster work. the theme of this work is chick rock, by the use of colours, the bright colours stand out and also the clothing help to set the theme of the article, the drawings have managed to create. also the article was called baby girl turn me on with your electric feel.
the work is all about the clothes and keeping in tune with the magazine and the article, this drawing was created by a simple drawing with fine liner and then adding colour felt tips and a computer program Photoshop to add in the photography to the drawings. this artist gets inspired by working from home with a simple pen and adding to the drawing until it comes alive which is amazing and looks great, she uses colour to add effects of bright colours that catch the eye, and unique patterens as she creates them all herself. and this creates an explosive effect. the key parts to her work are drawings and colour and her patterns.
this work has inspired me to create more with photography and experiment with different types of media for one piece, i really like the way it has created an effect of one piece of art work and the drawings fit so perfectly. this definitely makes me want to try this and take it further.
